Holiday Hiatus

It has been more than two years since I last posted in this blog.  Even before the global lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I was already planning to take maybe a year or so break from going overseas to do a makeover to my house. Time to clean up and sort out the unused stuff and make my house more senior citizen friendly. If not now, when? We are all not getting any younger :P

Who would have thought that my planned short holiday hiatus will end up a lot longer? In hindsight I would have squeezed at least an autumn holiday in 2019 and start my house makeover project only in 2020.

Without the vaccine,  I doubt I will do any international travels. Cannot imagine getting on a plane being greeted by stewardess in hazmat suits and instead of inflight meals we are offered masks and hand sanitisers :P

Imagine going to visit places wearing masks. Taking pictures with your face covered? Worse if you have to go on quarantine just because someone in the plane contracted the virus. 14 days quarantine for all international arrivals will spell the end of tour group packages.

I wrote the above in June 2020.  Kept it in draft version and never got around to posting it, until now. Yesterday I was reminiscing with my mom about all our travels and wondering when can we start travelling again.

It is June 2021 now.  Almost all the tour companies in my country are at the brink of collapse.  So many people are either unemployed or underemployed.

The vaccines are here but the distribution is unfortunately slow. I wish it can be done faster so that we can restart our lives and stop having lockdowns every few months or so.

Can we resume travelling in 2022? Doubtful. There are still so many uncertainties and just thinking about having to go through nasal swab at every country's entry point is a turn off.

I'm just hoping that some geniuses somewhere will find a cure to this fatal disease, only then it will be safe to travel. In the meantime I will find a new hobby to occupy and entertain me during this holiday hiatus.

I don't know when I will do another holiday post, let's just hope it will be soon.
